LED panels are divided into straight-down led panel lamps and side-lighting led panel lights. How to distinguish both lights while we install of them for the suitable application? For this, we need to distinguish them from thickness, brightness, heat dissipation lighting source, etc.

The Thickness between Direct Lighting Panel light And Side Light Source Panel Light

Generally, the side entry panel lights are thinner than the straight-down panel lights, the former thickness only 8.85mm which is the thinnest one in the market. There is the principle of the thickness of both types below.

The lighting way of the side light flat panel lamp is glowing all around, which lighting through the light guide plate of high transmittance, then forms a uniform plane luminous. Compared to the side light flat panel lamp, the straight down panel light’s lighting way is that the LED lamp is directly illuminated through the diffuser plate with suitable thickness to eliminate the space of brightness needed. Therefore, the power and thickness of straight-down lights are higher than the side light source panel light.

Structure: Side-lit LEDs are backlight structures in which the light source is a linear or point light source set on the side of a specially designed light guide plate made into a backlight. The overall structure is compact, as the following picture shows:

Straight Down Led Panel Light’s Source And Structure

Lighting Source: The straight-down LED backlight performs better. It allows for dynamic area control of the LCD TV. The straight down backlighting process is relatively simple and does not require a light guide. The light source (LED wafer array) and PCB are placed at the bottom of the backlight, and the light is emitted from the LEDs through the reflector at the bottom and then evenly through the diffuser and brightening film on the surface.

Structure: The advantages of straight-down backlight technology are high luminance, good viewing angle, high light utilization efficiency and simple structure. The space between the diffuser and the LED light source improves the uniformity of luminance. The number of light sources, luminous brightness, and power consumption are all greater than those of edge-lit backlighting, as the thickness, weight, and power consumption of the module are increased.
